Tragic Kingdom

The saga of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim has just reached a new milestone, with a jury in Santa Ana finding that the team did nothing wrong when it changed its name from the Anaheim Angels. The Yahoo! news story is here. As far as I can tell, there's nobody involved in this lawsuit who isn't an idiot.

Because it can't be stressed enough, the team's official name is, en español, Los Angeles de Los Angeles de Anaheim.

Sean, I thought you had a blog post where you mentioned that but I searched and couldn't find it. I was going to link to it. Am I crazy?

Sean, come on. Why does anyone care how the baseball team's name sounds in Spanish. This is America not Spain. Who the heck would even understand Spanish in the LA Basin?!

Yet another totally offtopic comment from Sean. *sigh*

I think I wrote about it in a Two Dolla Wednesday e-mail, not a Zemblan entry. Maybe I'll publish a collection of the "Best of Two Dolla Wednesday Mass Email Ticket Announcements" to hype up the season ticket plan.

This legal battle is a lot like how the city of LA itself got its full name, "El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciúncula."

It used to just be called "El Pueblo", but what the Porciúncula wants, the Porciúncula gets.
