April 02, 2006Sci Fi Channel Movie ReviewsMeli and I have taken to watching bad movies on the Sci Fi Channel on Saturday Nights. (Is Matt still looking forward to moving away from Palo Alto? Oh yes, friends. Yes he is.) These films are generally enjoyable in all their horrible glory, not least because they often feature former television stars who haven't aged well. Here's a run-down of a few of the more memorable ones. Path of Destruction
Magma: Volcanic Disaster
Minotaur
SS Doomtrooper
Mortuary
You know, I really don't know why we watch these things when we still have most of the first season of "Quantum Leap" to get through on DVD.

I should point out that in the original zombie mythology (from voodoo) salt is supposed to stop zombies since it's reminds them of the earth. Posted by: Tommaso Sciortino on April 3, 2006 05:19 AMBe sure to keep an eye out for Anonymous Rex-- where dinosaurs can disguise themselves as human, and last year's smash hit, Mansquito Posted by: C on April 3, 2006 08:56 AMI think Magma was my favorite, I've got to say, although I'll agree that the bull princess was flaming hot. Posted by: m on April 3, 2006 01:27 PMMansquito also stars Parker Lewis, and was on my TiVo unwatched for about a year. Finally I fast-forwarded through most of it, stopping to watch the odd Corin Nemec scene. Posted by: kenny on April 4, 2006 03:15 PMMammoth is so incredibly disjointed and stupid that it has to be a test for mental illness. If you can make sense of this movie, you are psychotic and need to be on Thorazine. Posted by: Pat on April 22, 2006 11:31 PMRegarding "SS Doomtrooper". Yeah the CGI was probably the worst I've seen. At least the monster was, anyway. The airplane sequence was good. Regarding the acting. I actually thought that the old school brooklyn thing that private parker lewis had was right on the money for a film like this. if the others would have followed suit and enjoyed the humor of the situation perhaps we'd have another cult classice bad movie? The performances were just inconsistant with the corny script. Posted by: Jimmy on May 14, 2006 11:00 AMBy the way, I watched Minotaur all the way through. The "girlfriends" all die except for the mute one, and the princess lives. The way they killed the monster was pretty lame though. Posted by: Tim Cagle on August 30, 2006 04:47 AMYeah, and the girlfriend (called Deedee, for some reason) was a silly, annoying wimp who screamed most of the time, so there didn't seem to be much reason for Theo the Shepard to risk his life to go after her (especially not when said smoking hot princess is trying to seduce him). I don't know who played Theo the Shepard, but he was a weak chinned, average looking guy who looked stoned out of his mind, so there wasn't much reason for the Princess to be seducing him either. She was probably the best character in the whole movie. Posted by: Blue Jean on November 1, 2007 10:08 PMPost a comment |
